Starbucks partners with Alibaba

Starbucks (US$1.3 billion net revenues in China / Pacific Asia in Q3 2019, + 9% compared to 2018) accelerates on e-commerce to keep up with its highly digital rival Luckin Coffee, whose technology is at the heart of the business model. Indeed, Luckin Coffee had in June 2019 a network of 2,963 establishments in China, built in just a year and a half, when it took 20 years to Starbucks to reach 3,600… Now Chinese customers of the American chain can order their drink from their connected speaker “T-mall Genie”, operated by the giant Alibaba… and receive it in 30 minutes.
